It was sad to hear the news this week of the passing of actor and comedian Robin Williams. I loved this tribute to him posted on the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Facebook page. It was designed by Eric Goldberg, the renowned animator who brought the Genie to life in the 1992 Disney animated film Aladdin.

New Disney Animation Posters by Tom Whalen
I love these posters designed by artist Tom Whalen for the 2014 SXSW “Nothing’s Impossible” show sponsored by the Oh My Disney blog and Mondo Gallery.
This poster for Frozen was designed by Tom Whalen but was not part of the 2014 SXSW exhibit.
“Aladdin”
“Aladdin” (1992), Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 31st animated motion picture. Based on a story from The Arabian Nights: Tales from a Thousand and One Nights collection. An action-packed, comedic romp complete with a genie, a lamp, three wishes, a sultan with a beautiful (and marriageable) daughter, a sinister villain who wants it all, and a hero–the “diamond in the rough.” Throw in some Cab Calloway-style musical numbers, a magic carpet ride around the world (here we find out what really happened to the Great Sphinx of Giza’s nose…), and a major climactic battle between the powers of goodness and greed, and you’ve got the makings of a really entertaining film. The music is stellar as is the comedic and spot-on character animation. Particularly notable is the manic, shape-shifting Genie famously voiced by Robin Williams and brilliantly animated by Eric Goldberg. Yet another personal favorite. “Beeee yourself.”
